Founded in 1947, Dimitrovgrad has a unique history. Its name is derived from the oldest existing building in the city, the Church of St. Dimitar, built in 1884 by volunteers from the village of Rakovski, which is now a suburb of Dirnitrovgrad. The church is a basilica with three naves. Most of the icons were painted by masters from the famous Sarnokov Art School. In 2000 and 2001 the church was repaired and the icon-paintings were restored. The bell tower, containing fine frescoes, was also reconstructed. The bell tower is the only cultural monument in the municipality. In the narthex of the church, visitors can view the unique signs of the Holy Glagolitic alphabet, the only place in Bulgaria where the alphabet is displayed. The Chapel is decorated with the figures of St. Kyril and Methodius and their disciples and followers.

Nymph Sanctuary (National Culture Monument)

    The sanctuary is located 600 meters southeast of Kasnakovo village, on the border between Haskovo and Dimitrovgrad.
During the first century, the Romans controlled the Balkan peninsula. From this period are the Thracian sanctuaries that were originated on the outskirts of mineral and other springs. This is one of the best preserved Thracian sanctuaries found near the village Kasnakovo, and was dedicated to Aphrodite and the nymphs during the second century. Remains include an amphitheater and other buildings. The architecture was formed by three springs. Local populations believe that the waters have a healing effect, and the holiday Saint Spass is celebrated here. The area has been a national monument since 1968.

Golden Plain Protection Grounds

    "Murtvitsata" reservoir by village Zlato Pole (or Golden Plains) is part of the old corridor of the Maritsa River and was constructed by dikes. The area stretches 3 Km in length and is one of the longest water bodies formed by the Maritsa river. In 2001 it was declared a protected area by the Ministry of Ecology due to its rich source of animal and plant life. The area is home to 8 threatened species of birds.

Nikola Vaptsarov Park

    The park is located near the Slavianski quarter in town and includes 800 decares and 15-20 year old forests. The park is separate from the quarter. There are two main walkways in the park, the largest one is located by a lake with a bridge and there is also a restaurant. The western end of the park is a children's playground with swings and a theater, and the eastern end is a planetarium.

Maritsa Park

Located off the shore of the Maritsa river, the park is surrounded with many trees and flowers. The park offers a restaurant and children's swimming pool.

Penue Penev Park

    The park is located amongst 350 decares in the center part of Gabera park, located on the edge of town. There are 92 types of trees, and the landscaping is decorative. The park is home to monolithic stones etched with verses from the poems of Penue Penev. Visitors will find lakes with water lillies, figure sculptures and art grottos. During 1961, art from here was on display in a world famous exhibition. The park features writings from Penue Penev because he wished to be buried in Gabera, from where one can see the entire city.

Jordano Bruno Astronomy Planetarium

    Located in Vapatsarov Park, the planetarium was constructed in 1962 and is the first in Bulgaria. It is equipped with 2 telescopes (150/2250 Meniscan) and other optical devices. The planetarium can accommodate up to 60 people. Located in the hall of the building is also a seismic station belonging to the geophysical institute.

Penue Penev Museum

The museum contains over 650 artifacts. The building is equipped with an audio-visual system from which you can listen to original works read by Penue Penev. The museum also offers films about the life and works of Penev.
